Io does not exist since a telescope cannot view Io. Using,
A/B = cos θ......................................................................................................4
when A/B → 0, equation 4 becomes,
A/B = θ.............................................................................................................5
The resolution of Galileo's telescope is 20 arcsec. Distance to Jupiter is 7.78 x 1011 m,
A = θ x B = [(20) / 3600] x (7.78 x 1011 m) = 4.3 x 106 km..................................6
The minimum diameter of Io that can be resolved using Galileo's telescope is 4,300 x 103 km yet Io is said to have a diameter of 3,640 km which is three orders of magnitude greater than the diameter of an object that can be resolved using Galileo's telescope (20 arcsec). Using the Hubble (.05 arcsec), the minimum diameter of an object that can be resolved is 10,805 km which is three times larger than the diameter of Io; consequently, Roemer fabricated the existence of Io to measure the velocity of light.
